Organize and Host Meetups: Begin by planning and hosting regular meetups where veterans, their families, and supporters can come together in a supportive environment. These gatherings should focus on providing information about available mental health resources, sharing personal experiences, and fostering a sense of community. Invite mental health professionals to speak and offer workshops on coping strategies and support systems. Make these meetups accessible and welcoming to encourage open dialogue and connections.
Plan and Execute Road-Marching Events: Design and execute road-marching events that symbolize the journey towards mental health awareness and support. These marches can serve as both a physical challenge and a visible demonstration of solidarity. Coordinate with local veterans' organizations and advocacy groups to ensure participation and promote the event. Use these marches as an opportunity to distribute informational materials and raise funds for suicide prevention programs.
Coordinate Wilderness Hikes and Camping Trips: Arrange wilderness hikes and camping trips as therapeutic and bonding experiences for veterans. The natural setting can provide a peaceful retreat, encouraging participants to relax and engage in meaningful conversations about mental health. Incorporate structured discussions and team-building activities into these trips to enhance connection and promote mental well-being. Partner with outdoor organizations to ensure safety and maximize the impact of these experiences.
Promote and Advocate for Awareness: Leverage the visibility of these activities to amplify the message of veterans' suicide prevention. Utilize social media, local media outlets, and community networks to share updates, personal stories, and the goals of your mission. Collaborate with influencers, local leaders, and advocacy groups to broaden your reach and impact. Create engaging content, such as videos and testimonials, to highlight the importance of mental health support for veterans and encourage public involvement and support.

Michael Miller
Born in 1983 in Brownwood, Texas
I’m a former military service member who has always been driven by adventure and a love for the outdoors. My time in the military taught me the value of resilience, teamwork, and pushing limits, and now, through Ruck n' Roll ATX, I aim to bring that same spirit to a civilian setting. With a passion for fitness and camaraderie, I created this group to combine the rugged adventure of backpacking with the brotherhood that defined my military experience. Whether it’s a challenging hike or a laid-back camping trip, this club is about revisiting the glory days and sharing great times with like-minded individuals.
When I’m not hitting the trails, I spend my time staying active in Austin’s vibrant outdoor scene, preparing for new physical challenges, and working on creative projects. Ruck n’ Roll ATX is more than just a club—it’s a way of life that blends my love for the outdoors with the music, culture, and community that make Austin such a unique place. I hope to inspire others to lace up their boots, grab their rucks, and join the adventure.
